What Did Leonardo Da Vinci Invent?

The name of Leonardo Da Vinci is synonymous with some of the most influential inventions of all time. Known most notably for his Mona Lisa, his works include many others that also deserve to be mentioned. As, well as his extraordinary art and design abilities he was also an astute lawyer, physician, botanist, architect and mathematician. Born in Italy, he became a famous Leonardo da Vinci devotee and wrote some of his greatest works based on biblical stories. Here is a look at some of his other famous creations.

The first parachute was not designed by da Vinci but rather was created by a test pilot that was using the air against the resistance of gravity. It was based on the Bernoulli’s law of airflow and would eventually become one of the most useful inventions of all time. The first parachute was not meant to be used for jumping but was meant to be used for testing purposes. This is the earliest appearance of the first parachute that we have evidence of, although there are several different accounts concerning when the first prototype was made.

The world may never know the true story of what happened to the legendary writer Aldus Huxley but we do know that he was working on an incredibly complex and complicated machine that would be able to take advantage of new and improved aerial navigation techniques. He hoped that his new invention could help his army win the upcoming World War. Unfortunately his plans were not to come to fruition and the First World War happened instead. Although many believe that the First World War was started by Germany not the United States this is due mainly to the fact that the German air force was not very successful with their aerial endeavors and needed a new way to fight that they turned to their flying machines which ended up being the code movie that we know today.

Leonardo da Vinci invented things such as, the monogram, the compass, the microscope, a scale model of the earth, angles, globes, the dome, and many others. Inventing things is something that is done in every civilization across the globe with the only major difference being the level of complexity. When you think about it some of these machines, like Da Vinci’s flying machine or the Mona Lisa were incredibly complex contraptions that took a great amount of skill and careful study to accomplish. These are two extremely complex pieces of machinery that required expertise not just in the mechanical engineering of the design but in the skills of the human maker as well. Leonardo da Vinci, as you likely know, was a skilled artist as well. Some of the paintings that he was responsible for, if you were to ever find them, are among the greatest paintings that you will ever see.

Leonardo da Vinci’s flying machine is still used to this day as an experimental craft, although it is expected that the law of physics will ultimately catch up with the craft because the laws of gravity will eventually be able to overcome the efforts of the inventor. However, until that day comes and da Vinci’s flying machine is able to fly, it is well worth having as a historical artifact. There have been several other famous inventors over the course of history that were considered geniuses just as da Vinci was and in addition, many of these people had some innovative products or discoveries that shaped the world we live in today.

What Are Inventions?

Inventors generally divide inventions into two broad categories-the Classifications of Inventions and the Application of Inventions. Both of these divisions are important to understand the uniqueness of each invention. In this article I focus on identifying first the distinctions between the two broad classifications.

An invention is a specific or novel device, technique, composition or procedure. The invention procedure is an overall process in an inventive development process and thus it can be an advance modification of an existing product or an innovative process for producing an original object or a useful result. Moreover, in some cases, an invention requires further steps such as filing the patent with the U.S. Patent Office and paying applicable taxes. These additional steps are what distinguish inventions from innovations. For instance, a chemical transformation only needs to be completed one time to obtain protection, while a food combination requires the invention to occur multiple times (application) before the food combination is protected under the patent.

In contrast, an innovation is an unanticipated creation, or change in an existing product, process, design or structure. Often, there is no need to go through the steps required for the classification of an invention. Instead, new products, processes, designs and structures are released into the market with little or no modification needed by the original product or inventor. Thus, if an invention involves new processes, it is not an innovation. Similarly, if an invention involves changes in an existing product, it can be classified as an innovation, even though the product itself may have been in existence for decades or centuries. Also, if an invention involves using a machine rather than human intervention, it is clear that the invention should be regarded as an innovation.

There are many patents issued each year based on inventions. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office publish all patent applications in an online directory. By comparing these applications and picking one that seems to be relevant, a patent specialist will assign an allowance to the inventor. An invention is usually a novel or unique device, technique, composition or procedure. The ultimate inventor usually has a clear understanding of what the new product or process does, how it works and why it works. The invention process is normally a discrete process over an extended period of time, such as a number of years or decades. It can be a novel improvement on a previously existing product or procedure or a revolutionary new process or invention for making an item or a new product. Many times, the process of developing or inventing a product or process requires months, if not years, of research and development prior to bringing the product to the market.

The most important reason for the inventor to file for protection in the US patent and Trademark Office is to prevent others from selling or making a similar product without obtaining a US patent first. The reason for this protection is not only to prevent others from stealing or building on an inventor’s discovery but also to discourage potential competitors from starting a business that would infringe on the inventor’s rights in his inventions. Other national agencies provide protection for inventors. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office even have an Office of Technology in response to the increasing number of patent applications.

A new invention or finding is considered an invention, when a person or a group of people claim an exclusive right to a Scientific Method. The Scientific Method generally refers to a method by which a subject is produced such that every result is a separate creation. A Scientific Method claims an exclusive right to the method rather than an invention. Examples of such methods are the extraction of hydrogen through electrolysis, the detection of the first traces of carbon-based compounds, and photosynthesis.

In order to patent an invention, the inventor must demonstrate to the patent office in a written application that there is a “chain of events” leading up to the original claim and that the event(s) is “unexpected and unexpected.” A chain of events generally has to involve a step-by-step description of how the invention came to be. The process does not have to involve any scientific experiment. In addition, if the patent application is intended to cover future inventions, then it is not necessary to describe each step in great detail. The fact that an invention is novel does not mean that there were no previous inventions that were discovered.

It is important to remember that inventions are not necessarily “good” inventions. Many things which we take for granted are actually inventions. Take for instance the television. The first televisions were obviously not inventions; instead, they were improvements on existing technology. So, in order to obtain a patent, you should show that there is some sort of obvious benefit to the world which you would like to patent and that others have attempted to do or have tried to do but failed to do so.
