Steel Binding Wire – All About It

Tags: ,

Steel binding is a metallic wire thread which ties and secure things together. It is very popular worldwide as the best binding material. This is because it is strong, durable and comes in different forms (round, flat and square). In addition to these qualities, steel binding wire also comes in different colors so that one may choose according to the need.

Steel binding also known as wire rope binding, strip binding, stick binding, acrylide, spiral binding, riveting, cable binding, crimp and tubular cable binding, is measured in terms of gauge either in inches (in) or in meters (m). For the measurement of the gauge, it is assumed that the thickest piece of the wire will bind the least number of objects of the same size. For example, for a thick rubber tube, it is assumed that the diameter of the tube would be twenty-six inches. In case the diameter is less than twenty-six inches, the thickness would be calculated from the outer diameter of the tube. This diameter is in fact half the gauge size.

As far as fear is concerned, it is the integral part of all Steel binding wires. In the first days of development of the Metal binding process, rebars were made of iron and were used for binding heavier pieces. However, as time progressed, steel rebars were produced for use in binding wires of different diameters. Thus, from six-inch diameter steel rods, it developed into sheets which can be bound or wrapped.

Steel binding wire can be of different types such as galvanized, electro mechanical galvanized, oil-based, nitrile, polyester based, melamine based, and acrylic. These have different methods of working depending on the diameter of the wire and the chemical reaction undergone after the binding. Since, some chemicals undergo a change in their properties when exposed to metal, the binders use special chemicals for protection, and other factors such as shrinkage may occur with other metals and so on. Steel binding uses several processes for shaping, bending, twisting, punching and wrapping.

Steel binding is done through shaping and bending to create tubes, coils and bundles, while some binders use mechanical ways to tie the wires together. The number of tools used to form these tubes and bundles depends on the nature of the products involved. From there, one gets mild steel tapes, cables, strips, sheets, rod and tie downs. It is important to know the details of all these binding equipment so that you know exactly what you need. This will help you make an informed decision regarding the binding equipment you need to purchase for the purpose of binding your work materials.

Steel binding wires come in different shapes and sizes, which are important because the size of the wire determines the tensile strength it has. To get a better understanding on the properties of the different steel binding wires, it is best to research a bit. You should also find a reliable and reputed dealer to buy from. When selecting rebar, it is important to select rods that have similar tensile strength and then tie them using appropriate wires.
